The Samuel Owen Gallery unveils “New Works” March 1, showcasing works by Asa Jackson in an exhibit backed by two prominent collectors of the artist’s works, collectors of Asa’s work, New York Knicks Assistant General Manager Allan Houston and his wife, Tamara Houston. An opening-night reception runs 6-9 p.m.
This Fairfield County debut of the Newport, Virginia-based artist continues through March 22.
Over 40 oil, acrylic and oil pastel paintings will be on exhibition, ranging in size from 12″ x16″ to 4.5 ft. by 8.5 ft. Jackson’s paintings are described as being rich in thoughtful narrative and inspiring philosophy that are realized through a powerful, energetic use of colors and imagery.
“Often times when I am painting, almost in a shamanistic way does the subject matter appear to me; usually being something I am going through in everyday life, or even historical events or people who may have significance to me,” says Jackson. “I am an avid reader of spiritual and historical texts so at times, my will reflect spiritual truths and historical scenes.”
