The Loft Artists Association artists pay tribute to the Big 4 elements Earth, Wind, Fire and Water in a “Elements” starting with a reception 6-9 p.m. Friday, June 10. Twenty-two artists whose studios are part of the LAA complex are participating. The show runs to July 31.
“Why Elements? Artists for centuries have painted clouds, evoking endless movement and embodying the shift from peace to turbulence.” says LAA president Lisa Cuscuna. ” From the Acropolis to Michelangelo’s David, the earth’s rocks have been an inspiration and the materials for art. Man’s intoxication with fire is primeval and was first painted on caves millions of years ago. Gods and demons churn the oceans in Greek mythology. And Water creates magic in the storms that Turner painted. Since the dawn of civilization the Elements have always played a huge role in art and this tradition continues today. Summer will soon be upon us and it is a time when people will be spending hours in the sun close to the water and out in the open where there is a lot of sky and land to look at. We hope that the exhibit will give people a new perspective when they are outdoors, as we display how the Elements have inspired us and our work.”
