I almost forgot — I promised to post a photo of Downtown Special Services District holiday window decorating contest winner. Here it is.
This shot from my Blackberry doesn’t do it justice. The window is so sharp and festive, I’d probably stop the car if I were driving by. Up close, Madeline Rhodes’ use of pedestrian supplies — coffee filters, drinking straws in white wrappers — only makes you appreciate it the more. And they set off those nice Liz Squillace t-shirts very nicely, don’t they.
The night after this shot was taken, the Rackears threw a grand opening party. It attracted the normal art-gallery crowd, but also some people more interested in jewelry and decor and I noticed the cash register ringing up a good number of sales throughout the evening.
I have to admit, there’s a sort of circular element to this post. I’m one of the judges who picked the winner. Now the contest is fodder for my little blog. Hey, it’s a small town.
