New London, which I’ve always appreciated for its gritty authenticity, is getting a little slick. Now has an upscale residential tower on its waterfront. And they’re extending a hand to the non-profit art center Expressiones.
New London Harbour Towers, “luxury residences with resort-like amenities” will hold an opening reception for its Deck The Halls Art Show 5:30-7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6. The show, which will feature the works of several local artists, will run through Sunday, Nov. 14.
Prior to the show opening, Expressiones Cultural Center will conduct a fundraiser concert on the 4th floor, beginning at 4:30. This event, called “Realizing the Dream,” will help support the cultural programs offered by Expressiones for children and their families. Pianist Solungga Liu will perform works by Mertl, Griffes, Beach and Janacek.
“New London has a glorious waterfront, a rich cultural scene, fascinating historic sites and fabulous recreational facilities,” said Guido Garaycochea of Expressiones Cultural Center. “The best part of New London is the diversity in all aspects- architecture, food, population, language and expressions.
Every floor will be decked out with an array of diverse artwork from over two-dozen artists from Expressiones and Hygienic, among others. Harbour Towers will be transformed into a nine-story art gallery with a concert hall.
The towers boast sweeping views of the Thames River and Long Island Sound and the complex is the only luxury residence in the region with multi-level, secured, covered parking and elevator service. The property includes a fourth-floor recreational deck complete with an indoor/outdoor solar heated spa-pool with whirlpool jets and endless pool system, a full exercise facility, pub-style community room with flat screen TVs, and a private movie theater with stadium seating.
