So I went, and it felt very strange coming back with three shopping bags in tow. Bridgeport’s downtown is indeed climbing out of its hole, but it’s still not a place you’d normally go gift shopping. Not yet. Food and alcohol for office workers at lunchtime and happy hour are what fuel most businesses here.
But there is a very nice gift shop next to the Playhouse — the Backstroke. I know, I know, I hate the name, too. But it’s connected to a chiropractor’s office, so that’s their name.
Did you notice I said I was shopping for two parties, but that I came back with three bags? Yes, I bought myself a present, too. I just can’t believe I was able to buy “Mr. Cosmo” for my eventual Christmas tree in my own little downtown of Bridgeport. They told me it was the last one, too; a big seller!
Either there are a lot more queens in Bridgeport than I thought, or some very obtuse shoppers who just liked the cocktail reference.
