Right now, crews are installing a variety of very playful larger-than-life fiberglass cat and dog statues instead. It’s sort of a followup on the “cow parade” that you may remember. And more fun than those somber, creepy lifelike statues of humans that have been haunting the sidewalks as well.
There will be 40 statues in all in an exhibition called “Reigning Cats and Dogs.” The Downtown Special Services District is supervising the placement of the works.
A launch party for the effort is set for June 16. The statues will be up all summer, after which they will be auctioned off with portion of proceeds to benefit Friends of Felines, OPIN and the Stamford Dog Park.
