It’s so much fun following the career of Thomas Kinkade, painter of weirdly successful mall art.
Yesterday The Modesto Bee reported that the Painter of Light was arrested for drunk driving. And the world is rewarded with the best Kinkade portrait ever.
His police mug shot.
The California Highway Patrol reportedly stopped Kinkade’s gray 2006 Mercedes Benz CLS500 outside Carmel, Calif. Kinkade was booked into the Monterey County Jail on suspicion of misdemeanor drunken driving, the Bee reports. The arresting officer reported that Kinkade was “very polite” during the exchange, police said.
Kinkade submitted to a blood test but the CHP is not releasing his blood-alcohol level, the newspaper reported. They are also considering criminal charges against the painter.
All this comes on the heels of his bankruptcy filing.
And the Kinkade parodies are viral already. Seem like they always were.
Blog note: When you have an art blog that tends to gush about the attributes of local galleries and artists, a good way to balance your site’s sugary content is by following at least one monstrous villain, a person who personifies the hypocrisy and bad taste and cynicism of a greedy entrepreneur who found a formula and a gained a following. Looks like I found a live one!
When did I begin to really obsess over Kinkade? Must have been when I read this in Vanity Fair. See! There really is a cynical formula!
