I remember when Fairfield’s arts council had their gallery nights, and I really looked forward to them until they petered out.
Many of them (at least three biggies) are not downtown anymore, and I think at the time they got really annoyed with the social pressure of having to participate. I think they felt this didn’t really draw serious customers. I say this because by the last few times they held this function, the gallery owners were plainly just “over it.” One even said so. Some just left out a small plate or Oreos and glowered at everyone who came in. OK, maybe that’s apocryphal, but that’s how I remember it.
Well, that was then. The next “Art Gallery Stroll” is Saturday, June 12 from 2 to 4 p.m. Bring this map! As you can see by the map, your car will be doing more strolling than your feet will. The Fairfield gallery scene is, unfortunately, not concentrated in one spot. (Wouldn’t it be great if it were. Some insurance or real estate offices could swap with some gallery spaces, and a centralized art district would be formed. But I digress.)
