It’s a little sad to see this Kennedy Gallery close. It was a Kennedy Gallery, the one in Ptown, where I bought my first substantial (expensive and framed) print. It was of goldfish, which was trendy at the time, and I was so proud of myself when I marched down Commercial Street, my new acquisition in hand, hoping someone I knew would have caught me in the act of purchasing art.
Soon after, at a guest house, I admired a similar goldfish print that I actually liked a little better. The owner told me he got it for cheap at Marshall’s. Years later, he gave it to me for free when he was remodeling. My pride was a little wounded, but I still remember that shoppers high from stretching my budget a little to get a piece of art I fancied.
Both prints have been sold or given to the Goodwill as to not remind me of my bungled art buy.
