What is this thing being promoted as the first-ever Bridgeport Critical Mass Ride. It starts, and the culminates at Baldwin Plaza in time for that evening’s Park City Noise happening on Thursday, Mary 27, with bands (see below), lawn games, fire performers (??) and et cetera.
It’s promised to be an easy-paced bike ride through downtown, to Black Rock, and back again. Bring your own water and helmets.
Is this a fund-raiser? Is there a cause? Not exactly. I Googled it so you don’t have to.
It’s just an informal kind of thing that’s been going on for years all over the world. It was started in 1992 as sort of a way to reclaim the streets for bicyclists. Some onlookers have taken this as a subtle attempt here to annoy those of us who ride in cars. Why it’s anarchy, I tell you, and I’m all for that — until they make me miss a light.
