In his blog, Mario Garcia reports some uplifting signs at this year’s International Newspaper Marketing Association Congress, which concluded yesterday at the Marriott Marquis on Times Square. Deep within his report was this takeaway about pay walls:
“…the content that people are willing to pay for seems to be more local, giving the very regional newspapers a big edge over their metropolitan counterparts in the area of pay for online content.”
Signs of hope indeed.
Another prediction: In five years, 25% of revenue to publishing houses will come from E readers and tablets. I’m not sure how newspapers break out there. But that dovetails nicely with today’s tablet throwdown, way downtown at the Digital Sandbox Event Center. Follow on Twitter with hashtag #wemedia or follow along @wemedia.
