The big family portrait studio in Bridgeport for many, many, many years was Brignolo studio, which really hit its stride in the 60s, 70s and 80s when the final proprietor, Anne Brignolo, took the helm from her father. She specialized in highly stylized portraits, done with painstaking precision in her basement studio using retouched film and grease pencil applied directly to the negative. No Photoshop for Anne!
The Post did a story about her here, and the reporter slipped me some shots of her rather memorable home on Washington Park. Soon she’ll be moving to another Washington — Washington state to be with her daughter. The cliche applies: the end of an era.
